Results from sea trials of the Swedish AUV62F's Terrain Navigation System

The Swedish AUV62, which is a 21" vehicle, has now been in testing for some years. The proposed main tasks for the vehicle are mine reconnaissance, bottom charting, covert military operations, and environment inspections in littoral waters. For these tasks accurate positioning is of vital interest and one important subsystem to test is therefore the terrain navigation system. This paper will give an overview of the design of the terrain navigation system and present results from several sea trials that have been conducted during the past two years. The paper will also give an overview of Saab's and the Swedish Defence Material Administration's second generation AUV, the AUV62 Sapphires.
