Many epidemiological studies have shown an apparent beneficial effect of fish oil, containing high levels of the #omega#3 PUFAs, eicosapentaenoate and docosahexaenoate, on mortality from heart disease and cancer [1, 2]. By contrast, undesirable effects of high fish oil intake have been a concern, because fish oil with high #omega#3 PUFA content is susceptible to lipid peroxidation under aerobic conditions.
