The Immersed Tunnel in Bjorvika. Presentation of Environmental Challenges and Measures

Building the first planned immersed tunnel in Norway, give birth to environmental challenges different from other road projects in Norway so far. The masses that have to be removed and deposited to make space for the tunnel elements are of very different type and degree of contamination. This is due to natural conditions and prior activities in the area. Further, the chance to find boats or constructions protected by the Cultural Heritage Act is quite high in part of the area for the proposed road track. Environmental goals are set for all parts of the project and integrated in a separate environmental program. The program will be followed up through an own steering system.
