ABN AMRO Australia was mandated in March 2000 as one of five leading investment banks, including both domestic and international institutions, to arrange senior debt funding for the over 1 billion Australia dollars Australian Magnesium Corporation project (the "Stanwell project") near Rockhampton, Australia. In the months that have followed, the Joint Lead Arrangers ("JLAs") have undertaken extensive due diligence that has had a strong infuence on how the project will ultimately be delivered. The final senior debt funding package, and the structure surrounding it, was substantially enhanced as the understanding of the project progressed. This paper outlines some of the key factors that the JLAs considered in order to achieve a satisfactory overall financing package.
