Fabrication and Characterization of P92 and P122 Full Size Components

The installation of demonstration superheater outlet collectors made of newly developed 9-12%Cr steels P92 and P122 into a 400MW coal-fired power plant with steam parameters of 290 bar and 580°C/580°C/580°C at Nordjyllandsvaerket power station was planned by ELSAM, Denmark. The service exposure test consisted of three superheater outlet collectors, two of P92 and one of P122, and the remaining collectors and main header of P91. One of the two P92 and one P122 collector were fabricated by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Nagasaki, Japan in 1996, with the actual design, fabrication and inspection processes getting the approval of the Danish authorities and the authorized inspector who examined the headers for compliance with ASME Section I. This paper deals with the fabrication procedures and experiences with P92 and P122 outlet superheater collectors, as well as the material properties of welded joints produced by means of practical and commercial-based procedures applied to header component fabrication.
