Review of Electrotherapy Devices for Use in Veterinary Medicine

Electrotherapy devices can be placed into two categories of sensory nerve or motor nerve stimulators. Within these two classes are subcategories of stimulators, each with distinct modes of action. The terminology used by manufacturers is not always standardized, so the distinctions between the classes are not always apparent. In addition, parameters from several different subcategories of electrotherapy devices can be combined, making the interpretation of the characteristics of a particular system difficult. Some specific characteristics of the horse should be taken into consideration when selecting an electrotherapy device.
