Teaching time

摘要

This paper describes how, with the aid of a simple product, students are engrossed in the design process and experience the effects of time compression technologies at first hand. The chosen product was designed originally to demonstrate basic manufacturing techniques to undergraduate students. The exercise allows students to be totally involved in concurrent product development activities through the use of TeamSET Concurrent Engineering software and in rapid product development through the use of JP System 5 educational Rapid Prototyping. The exercise demonstrates the effectiveness of systematic tools in the design process and the advantages of rapid availability of physical hardware.
