摘要

In order to determine the efficacy of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, one can investigate their potential analgesic, antipyretic, or anti-inflammatory properties. Because birds have a high physiological body temperature and their pain responseis difficult to assess, a study design that allows for determination of inflammatory mediators in the vicinity of an inflammatory stimulus would be particularly useful, hi the present study, the acute inflammatory response to subcutaneously implanted carrageenan-treated synthetic sponges was analyzed, using turkey poults as experimental animals. Blood plasma and inflammatory exudate from the implanted sponges was analyzed for prostaglandin E_2 and corticosterone concentration. The antiphlogistic (anti-inflammatory) effect of sodium salicy late on the selected parameters was studied in 3 different dosage groups as opposed to a control group. Pharmacokinetic data of sodium salicylate in blood and exudate were evaluated in relation to the monitored inflammatory changes.
