Vitamin B_(12) (cyanocobalamin), the last vitamin discovered, is the most potent of the vitamins. It is best known for its association with Addisonia pernicious. It is very significant to study the various properties of vitamin B_(12), one of which is its vibrational spectra. Up to now, there have been many studies about Raman spectra and resonance Raman spectra of vitamin B_(12) [1-2], however, very little work has been done on its surface enhanced Raman spectra. As well known, due to it giving additional sensitivity and quenching fluorescence, surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) provides an extremely sensitive and selective probe of biologically important chromophores and macro-molecules, such as porphyrin molecules [3] and vitamins [4]. In this work, SERS from vitamin B_(12) with different surface concentrations on electrochemically roughened Ag surface is reported. SERS spectra are obtained by a Renishaw Raman microspectrometer and the laser wavelength is 632.8 nm.
