RELATIONS BETWEEN THE REACTIONS OF FEAR AND THE PRODUCTIVITY IN SOW

The intensification of the production modifies the nature of the relations between the stockbreeder and his herd. The automation of many tasks, in particular the food, involves a reduction in the positive contacts and an proportional increase in the negative contacts (care, vaccinations). However, the nature and the frequency of the contacts between the stockbreeder and his herd determine the confidence of the animal (8). Several studies showed relations between the fear or the confidence of the animals towards the man and their productivity (5) (6). The nature of the relation stockbreeder / herd also influences the animals handling (4) (2) (8). The goal of this study is to validate a simple behavioral test (5) to evaluate the confidence of the animals and to the relationship with the reproductive performances of sows in french breedings herds.
