The growing ecological sensibility of public opinion and the governments of the most industrialised countries have strongly modified the technological constraints for automotive manufactures, becoming every more restrictive. The main solution with concern to the reduction of the pollutants outcoming from the exhaust manifold in a 4-stroke engine is related to the optimisation of the combustion process by one hand and to the enhancement of the three way catalyst efficiency, by the other. Such results are obtainable only applying an opportune control of the Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) for every engine cylinder, in order to keep their respective values as close as possible to the stoichiometric value.
