The paper emphasises the occurrence of soil corrosion in the specific operation conditions of metallic pipes used for transporting water, oil and gases in the Romanian hydroamelioration arrangements and in oil and gas extraction industry. Four bacteriostatic methods for combating corrosion were developed and successfully tested in non-salt and salt water from various oil fields, by the Research and Design Institute for Oil and Gases Campina. In addition two types of protective layer were tested with good results on buried pipes used for irrigation water, by the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences research units.
