Genetic modification is a technology which offers many potential benefits in the areas of phar-maceuticals, agriculture and food production. However, in food production there has been consumer resistance to its introduction. Ethical considerations play a part in this resistance. This paper describes a series of studies seeking to incorporate ethical and moral concerns into more rationally based models of human decision making. Ethical considerations are found to play a substantial role in predicting attitudes over and above more rationally based beliefs.
