Rice grassy stunt virus (RGSV) is a member of Tenuivirus. Its genome consists of 6 ssRNA species. The nucleocapsid protein (NC) is encoded by the viral complementary RNA5 (vcRNA5). It has been shown that the accumulation of viral particles of RGSV is closely associated with symptoms and rice resistance. However, little is known about whether NC of RGSV is related to pathogenicity or not, neither is its role in virus replication and interaction with its host plant and insect vector. Here we reported the construction of plant expression vector of NC gene and the transformation of rice by the mediation of Agrobacterium tumefaciens. The aim was to study the function of NC gene and its relationship with pathogenicity by analysis of its expression in transgenic rice plants.
