A time-varying sliding surface for a variable structure control law is proposed to achieve accurate and robust control performance. The variable structure control system is the sliding motion of the state on the sliding surface. During this sliding motion, the system shows invariance properties yielding motion which is independent of certain parameter uncertainties and disturbances. This means that the design of the sliding surface largely determines the control performance of the system. In this paper, a time-varying sliding surface via fuzzy logic control technique will be introduced and mould level control system in continuous casting process will be used to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme.
