The method involves detecting a surface structure (6) by a scan station (8), and storing structural data reproduced by the surface structure. Color application process is controlled based on the structural data, where color is applied on the surface structure by a printhead (14). A scanner is utilized for acquisition of the surface structure. Data received from acquisition of the surface structure are processed and stored. A layer for improving contrast is applied on the surface structure before scanning the surface structure. An independent claim is also included for a device for color formation of a structured surface of a floor panel.
