Relationship between type a porcine Rotavirus and management practices in ontario swine herds

The common causes of diarrhea in nursing and nursery pigs include E. coli, Transmissible Gastroenteritis (TGE) virus, Isospora suis and Rotavirus. The clinical signs in a herd experiencing diarrhea due to Rotavirus may be similar to those caused by endemic TGE, Isospora suis or E. coli in an older pig. All of these agents can cause mild to moderate diarrhea with moderate to high morbidity. The clinician can only make a correct diagnosis by conducting a thorough post mortem examination of affected pigs.
