Endemic PRRS is challenging to serologic interpretation. The conclusions of PRRS test interpretations, must extend beyond a description of "exposed" or "not exposed". A meaningful conclusion should quantify specific charateristics describing the state of PRRS infection within a sow herd. Serologic quantifications should distinguish "PRRS stable sow herds" from "unstable herds." The enumerative definition of a stable herd avoids loose terminology. Serologic quantifications of sow herds should also predict future production within sow herds and performance of sow herd offspring in the nursery.
