Principal for Safety Training Perspective

This paper describes the (Naval Sea Systems Command) NAVSEA qualification for Navy acquisition program Principal for Safety (PFS) and then gives my perspective as the first qualified PFS of this NAVSEA process. The goal of the NAVSEA qualification process is to establish an appropriate level of assurance in the system safety competencies necessary in managing today's complex systems. The specialized training developed by Naval Ordnance Safety and Security Activity (NOSSA) on their Weapons Systems Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB) Interactive Safety Environment (WISE) site, https://intranet.nossa.navsea.navy.mil/wise/ is open for anyone to take who may just be interested in what system safety is as well as those who would like to pursue qualification as PFS. Upon my return to Federal Service, I pursued the qualification as PFS and was the first to complete all quizzes and exams. I would recommend all Navy safety personnel as well as those who must assure safety for personnel or for a weapon system, to access the WISE website as well as the entire NOSSA website. This website can help new and existing employees to become more familiar with system safety expectations and provide many safety resources.
