Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection has been demonstrated to be necessary for the full expression of postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) (1). However, the severe clinical expression of the disease observed under field conditions has been difficult to reproduce experimentally (2). For research purposes, it is necessary to establish a consistently effective experimental model of PMWS in swine. In the present work, a meta-analysis was performed with the aim of identifying the most relevant factors that must be accounted for the successful reproduction of PMWS under experimental conditions.
