Clinical, Hematological and Pathological Comparative Study of Experimental Inoculation of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae Serotypes 1 and 7

There are 15 serotypes of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (App) and all of them can produce pleuropneumonia. However, some serotypes are more virulent than others. These differences may be attributed to the production of virulence factors such as: LPS, capsular polysaccharides, outer membrane proteins, and synthesis, activation and secretion of Apx toxins (Apxl to ApxlV) (1). App serotype ; the most frequently isolated serotype in Argentina, is high virulent and produces Apxl and Apx II toxins. App serotype 7 is considered to be of variable/low virulence, was isolated from asymptomatic dead pigs and produces only Apxll (2). Currently, strains of App 7 are usually recovered from diseased pigs in high health status farms. Furthermore, experimentally inoculation has failed in produce disease (3).
