This paper presents a stability robustness analysis for gain-scheduled control for nonlinear plants based on Lyapunov ideas. The analysis formalizes the heuristic rules regarding scheduling variables; they should capture the plant's nonlinearities and should vary slowly. Preliminary results on an automation technique for gainscheduling based on the concept of stability radius are also presented. Our method is illustrated on a longitudinal flight control problem.
