The automation system (1) has an automation control (3.1) and a redundant automation control (3.2), a peripheral unit and a bus system (4), which interconnects two automation controls and peripheral unit. The peripheral unit is enclosed by an associated component of bus connection (5.1,5.2,5.3) at the bus system. The component of bus connection has a bus controller, which is arranged to the automation control and stands in connection over the bus system. A change-over unit is provided for switching between the two bus-controllers (7.1,7.2). An independent claim is also included for a method for the operation of an automation system.
