Behaviour of permanent ground anchors in Jurong Formation of Singapore

The behaviour of permanent ground anchors installed as part of the support for a diaphragm wall in the Jurong Formation of Singapore is investigated. Preliminary pullout test was carried out on an instrumented test anchor to establish the unit skin friction of the ground anchor at ultimate load and the stress/strain relationship of the anchor/soil under cyclic loads. Upon completion of the installation of anchors and the supporting structures, 38 numbers of permanent anchors were tested in two cycles up to 1.5 times the working load and finally lock-off at 1.1 times the anchor working load. To monitor the long term peformance of the permanent anchors, the movement of the entire structure was monitored periodically using benchmarks and inclinometer and the anchors were examined using life-off test yearly.
