Rock stress measurement for limestone open pit mine

In this paper, the results of which rock stress measurement was performed by the Compact Conical-ended Borehole Overcoring (CCBO) technique at Torigata Limestone Mine are discussed, comparing with those analyzed by back analysis using 3-D finite element method. It is shown that the horizontal initial stress component cannot be disregarded to estimate the stability of rock slope even in the case that the limestone mine is located near the top of a mountain.
