The Culture Conidtions of Grifola umbellata

Grifola unbellata formed white and longitudinally linear hyphae, and they formed thick, peelable mycelial mat on PDA.G. unbellata also showed clamp connections on the generative hyphae, swollen hyphal tips, an hyphal sizes ranged in 0/95-2.80mivm. The mycelial growth fo G. umbellata was favorable a pH 4 and 20 degree, respectively. Under the shaking culture, G.unbellata produced mycelial masses of 15-20 mm in their diameter, and these masses showed pale yellow colors similar to those of its sclerotia in the passage of incubation time. On six tree species including log of Styrax japonica, G.umbellata formed mycelial masses of 3-5 mm in their sizes. The mycelial diameter and deisity fo G.umbellata were more favorable in the dual incubation of both Armillaria mellea nad G.umbellata than in the single incubation of G.umbellata on PDA. On the logs, there was a symbiotic ocnnection bwtween the hyphae of G.umbellata nad rhiomorphs of A.mellea in mycelial mats of G.umbellata touched closely with A.mellea; To examine ligninolytic activities of G.umbellata, lignin-degrading fungus, four strains of G.umbellata wre tested. Strain A, B, and C of G. umbellata decolorized bromophenol blue to the extent of 0.0635-0.0902, whereas stain D was negligible.
