CTC CONTINUOUS COKEMAKING PROCESS

Coal Technology Corporation (CTC) hasmerged with Antaeus Energy Corporation to form a newsubsidiary entitled, "Antaeus CTC Technical Services, Inc."During the past 10 years through cost-shared contractswith DOE, CTC has developed, patented, anddemonstrated a new process to continuously producehigh quality coke in less than four hours without thenormal environmental emissions associated with existing by-product coke ovens.The CTC/CLC? (Char, Liquids, and Coke) Processutilizes a unique twin screw reaction system in atwo-stage carbonization system with a low temperature(1000-1200 DEG F) mild gasification stage followed bya high temperature (2000-2200 deg F) calcining stagein a totally enclosed system with condensing of thecoal liquids and the utilization of the off-gases asthe reactor heat source and excess heat used forco-generation. The process has been demonstrated ina l0-ton per day pilot plant and is now ready for commercialization.A commercial plant is now being designed andconstruction will begin in July 1998. Purchasecontracts for foundry coke have been signed withGeneral Motors and off-take agreements for blastfurnace coke are being negotiated with Weirton Steel and Elkem Metals Company.
