A potential rapid solid/liquid separation processof ultrafine particles from dilute aqueous suspensions isintroduced. This process is referred to as a tumbling methodwhich involves the separation of one or two types of ultrafineparticles in aqueous suspension by heterocoagulationphenomena. It is conducted by tumbling suspensions with amacroscopic collector such as glass beads which leads to thesettling of ultrafine particles with the collector. In particular, itwas found that silica (SiO_2: 0.12 #mu#m) particles couldeffectively be collected by glass beads (80 #mu#m) through abridging effect of hematite (#alpha#-Fe_2O_3: 0.10 #mu#m)particles. The results were explained in terms of the DLVOtheory and the efficient movement of the glass beads collector.
