Remedial Investigations in Poland -A Case Study of Regulatory Interaction

Experience in performing a remedial investigation in Poland has revealed differences in regulatory procedures and emphases from those in effect in the United States. These include a formal review process, even for voluntary work, which is required prior to the initiation of work where data may be submitted to the authorities. Regulatory emphasis and structure is oriented to the control of work processes by licensing requirements and review of work by a network of reviewers contracted by authorities. The flow of this review is controlled by regional authorities who have discretion in the application of the process.
