In 1985, the Japan Power Engineering and Inspection Corporation (JAPEIC) embarked upon a 12-year plant life extension technology development project (PLEX project). In this project various kinds of tests are conducted to clarify the effects of aging and reactor water environment on major structural component materials including low alloy steel and stainless steel from which the most important components in the view of plant life extension are fabricated. These tests are planned to clarify the aging characteristics of the materials toward extending component life and to develop aging models. Also, the material data base to be obtained in this project has been established and the life prediction methodology is developed. This report describes the life prediction methodology and the material data used for plant life evaluation. Also, the case study of life prediction and evaluation regarding low alloy steel, stainless steel and duplex stainless steel as component materials are introduced.
