Analysis of Light-Leakage Caused by Colour Filters for Improving Contrast Ratio of LCD TVs

The intensity of light leakage caused by colour filters in black representation has been analyzed in terms of depolarization. Their intrinsic intensity, which is independent from the polarization degree of the polarizer, can be obtained quantitatively using this method. The intrinsic intensity is useful to optimize the combination between colour filter and polarizer. We have reduced the light leakage about 65% with new colour filter and the optimized polarizer.
