Inhibition of AChE preparations from S and R strains of green rice leafhopper by aryl N-methylcarbamates (full set, n=40) and aryl oxadiazolones (full set, n=81) were evaluated with pl50 as the biological end-point. The full sets and selected subsets were regressed against binding and reactivity descriptors to explore differences in mechanistic behavior. Subsets of the ortho- (n=21) and meta-substituted (n=19) carbamates were treated separately. Similar mechanistic factors were observed for both isomeric sets against suseptible and resistant AChE. However, the weightings of the key variables are quite different, especially for the ortho set where both steric and electronic factors are important. The meta set mainly shows a shift in optimum lipophilicity for binding.
