This paper describes the criteria used in the realization of an ATLAS compiler able to correct automatically certain lexical and syntactic errors detected during compilation of a program statement in order that compilation of the erroneous statement may continue. The hierarchic organization of the compiler modu les, and in particular the position of the error handling module in the hierarchy were designed to permit manual substitution of statements contening uncorrectable errors, whithout the need for recursion between the module of syntactic analysis and the one of errors treatment.
