Compared to single-axle driven vehicles, all-wheel drive vehicles offer better tractionand greater driving performance. This applies in particular to the on-demand all-wheeldrive technology, a technology that is the predominant standard in most AWD vehiclestoday.GKN and RWTH Aachen University have developed an AWD system for significantCO2 savings with an optional 48 V hybrid module for mild hybridization. The usual extrafuel consumption of an AWD system is reduced to one third with the newly developedhighly efficient AWD components.
