The six-phase value engineering job plan can be integrated with Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA?) techniques that are a valuable method to apply towards product development. Dynisco uses this approach that is referred to as a Design for Value workshop. The value engineering process is followed; after function analysis is completed, DFMA? steps are integrated into the creative and evaluation phases of the job plan. Function analysis and value measurement are defined before applying the DFMA? toolset at the product component level to better understand prioritization of customer needs and engineering requirements. DFMA? then becomes an ideal tool to use in improving the product design and costs specifically at the component level. This paper will review the manner in which Dynisco integrates DFMA? into the six-phase value engineering job plan to improve product value during a Design for Value workshop.
