Particularities of monitoring elderly patients with cardiac procedures

The aim of our study was to assess the correlations between different cardiac procedures on groups of age. Material and method: A group of 64 patients (age > 65 years old) with history of cardiac procedure was divided in three Age Groups. Demographic data, medical history, type of intervention and geriatric assessment were analyzed in accordance with each Age Group. Results: Most of the procedures were performed in patients aged over 75. The type of intervention showed strong statistically significance in correlation with the Age Groups, but poorly represented related to gender and home background. Geriatric evaluation showed important evidence of malnutrition and depression, partially correlated with age (p<;0.01). Conclusions: The correlation between our data provide useful information about the most common type of cardiac procedure in elderly, show the most frequent causes and provides feedback regarding the quality of life after intervention.
