This paper describes a method for implementing a parallel structural encoder for Reed-Solomon RS (255,223),which is specified as Forward Error Correction (FEC) code for 10 Gbit/s Ethernet passive optical networks (10G-EPONs). The feasibility and correctness of the proposed method are discussed,proved and simulated. The simulation result shows that the encoder can satisfy the throughput demand of 10G-EPON. As the parallelism degree of the structure is variable, the proposed method can be easily adopted in higher data-rate system.
