Currently, the problems of low accuracy and slow speed in the LPR ( license plate recognition ) of motor vehiclestill exist, while the problem is mainly due to complex interference caused by the surrounding environment. As the collection plate is usually located on the lower portion of the image, this system firstly cut the image from the position of 1 / 2 to obtain the lower part that can effectively reduce the interference information. Then, we orientate license plate accurately through Canny operator edge detection[l] and the geometric ratio features of license plate[6]. Combining these two methods can further remove the interference factors, and ultimately obtain accurate positioning. Finally, the experiment result has proved the method more reliable and faster.
