Two series of pitch- (OG series, Osaka Gas Co.) and PAN- (FE series, Toho TENAX Co.) based activated carbon fibers (ACFs) with different pore size distributions and surface compositions were prepared to elucidate the influence of pore size and surface functionality on the formation of electrochemical double layer. Behaviours of electrolyte ion in the micropore of ACFs were examined by using cyclic voltammetry and magic angle spinning (MAS) solid-state NMR in organic (Et_4NBF_4/PC) and inorganic (H_2SO_4) capacitor systems.
