The big opportunity is not the idea. It is to build a wide path from research and development to commercialization by involving the right people, processes and metrics. In Googol's experience, a vast majority of companies face the largest challenges in the gap between development and commercialization. By thoroughly understanding the innovation route -Research-Development-Commercialization-Market Entry (RDCM) - and by effectively addressing the Development-Commercialization gap, the holy grail of innovation is within reach. The difference in "Share of Commercialized Patents " (SCP) varies between organizations and nations. The discrepancy between two nations has been shown to be as far as 75% versus 12%, which is partly a result of patent strategies, but also of the methodology or even lack of structured Innovation Systems. The higher the level of entrepreneurial activities and the earlier the involvement from commercial specialists, the higher the outcome of R&D to repetitively commercialized products and services. Googol's experience from working with a large number of global blue-chip companies has shown that the route from research to commercial breakthrough faces thresholds that can be anticipated and proactively managed - thus controlling risk and enhancing returns to a higher extent. The condensed explanation of how Technology Transfer Systems can be successfully shaped is to build and develop the Innovation Value Chain? (ICV). The ICV encompasses challenges and solutions that range from organization to product & services, to social structures. Focusing on the Opportunity Epicentre, we suggest adding resources in terms of optimized financial support , competencies and management focus, and also actively working with methodologies such as Open Innovation, Metrics, and Internal Corporate Venturing. We refer to this as the "Holy Grail of Innovation" - when the Opportunity Epicentre has been widened to allow products and solutions to successfully journey from Research to Market.
