From this study, it was found that cement bonding condition plays a significant role in tibial tray fixation stability performance. In the fully-cemented condition, MIS friendly trays with a shorter keel have comparable fixation stability performance to a traditional stemmed tray. When the cement bonding is compromised, fixation stability is likely achieved with a stem extension. This suggests that during surgery, proper cement technique is critical to achieve tray stability for MIS cemented tibial trays. Furthermore, the results from this study also show material stiffness plays a role in fixation stability. Stiffer trays may have better fixation. However, stiffer tray may transfer less stress to the proximal tibia.
