This study analyzes the driftwood deposition patterns in shallow flows considering the root effect by means of laboratory experiments and computer simulations. For the computations, we used the depthaveraged two dimensional model, Nays2DH on iRIC for simulating flows. A newly developed driftwood simulation model was combined with it. The laboratory tests were performed by changing several hydraulic parameters, such as, discharge, channel slope and root effect. The experimental results showed that the driftwood tends to move toward the side walls after passing the obstacles, and then deposited on the bed with effect of the location of root. The computational results showed that the present coupling model is able to reproduce the fundamental aspects of the phenomena.
