This study analyzes the driftwood deposition patterns in shallow flows considering the root effect bymeans of laboratory experiments and computer simulations. For the computations, we used the depthaveragedtwo dimensional model, Nays2DH on iRIC for simulating flows. A newly developed driftwoodsimulation model was combined with it. The laboratory tests were performed by changing several hydraulicparameters, such as, discharge, channel slope and root effect. The experimental results showedthat the driftwood tends to move toward the side walls after passing the obstacles, and then deposited onthe bed with effect of the location of root. The computational results showed that the present couplingmodel is able to reproduce the fundamental aspects of the phenomena.
