Intelligent Fuzzy Optimal Active Control System of Building Structures with Elasto-plastic Restoring Force Characteristic

The authors have already proposed an intelligent fuzzy optimal active control (IFOAC) system and the effectiveness of proposed systems is verified and discussed by using the results of digital simulations and shaking table tests in case of visco-elastic structures. Proposed systems have also applied to the structures with elasto-plastic restoring force characteristics, and the effectiveness of proposed systems has been verified and discussed by the result of digital simulations only in case of different earthquake input acceleration levels. So, in this paper, in order to clarify the applicability and the validity of the IFOAC system, parametrical studies on earthquake input acceleration levels, secondary stiffness, and yield seismic coefficients are performed and each control effect is verified and discussed. Results of digital simulations show that proposed systems can control structural responses effectively also in a small earthquake when the membership functions are set up to large earthquake. Furthermore, the control effects on earthquake input acceleration levels, secondary stiffness and yield seismic coefficients are clarified, respectively. Further improvement of proposed system is required when relative response displacements of the top from the foundation of the structure become large in one direction.
