A contribution to the study of nimodipine dissolution characteristics

Nimodipine (NM) is used in prevention and treatment of ischemic neurological deficits caused by arterial vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage (1). One problem encounted with many of the active substances used today, including NM, is their poor solubility in water and their limited bioavailability. One of the related means for investigating drug dissolution is the use of surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), in a dissolution medium, because of the mechanistic similarities to in vivo conditions (2). The objectives of our experiments were to ivnestigate the solubility and the dissolution rate of NM as a function of the surfactant concentration in a dissolution medium.
