Many catalytic phenomena are governed mainly by the adsorption energy on the heterogenous solid surfaces. A ver ysimple experimental arrangement, based on a combination of Head Space Analysis and Reversed-Flow Gas Chromatography, permits the determination of:(1) the adsorption energies epsilon_i on various active sites i of the surface; (2) the local monolayer capacities for the adsorbed analytes on each i; (3) the local adsorption isotherms theta_i(p,T,epsilon) on the heterogeneous surface; and (4) the adsorption energy distribution function f(epsilon) on the surface.
