This article focuses on the blade runner of mixedflow hydraulic turbines with complex geometric shape. It brings forward a kind of LOD (Level of Detail) algorithms for optimizing the process of blade modeling. Firstly, the paper gives a brief introduction of basic theory of model simplification, which relies on the method of edge folding based on LOD technology. Furthermore, based on NURBS modeling, the paper describes the cost calculation of edge folding in the model and method of simplification for realization. Compared with other multiple simplified methods, the algorithm is more versatile and has less model distortion. The results reveal that the algorithm has reduced the calculation time and improved the efficiency of model design.
