On 18th June, 2017 an ample amount of smoke plume had been dispersed into the atmosphere during the raging forest fire event which had taken place in Central Portugal, thereby affecting the air quality of the surrounding regions. The detection of smoke aerosols has been carried out by using the aerosol data from MODIS and OMI. The transport of air parcels containing smoke particles have been observed using NOAA HYSPLIT forward trajectory model which determines the potential sink area in the nearby region of the source area. This work is aimed to provide a comparative study of aerosol loadings derived from different passive sensors over the source and potential sink area, before and after the fire event happened in the source area.
