A research topic is more and more subject of interest in electrical engineering: the development of electric machines that can withstand high temperature as high as 400 °C. A proposed solution is the use of anodized aluminum strip which insulation is from the family of ceramics. This insulation layer has a good resistance to this range of temperature as its melting point is around 2000 °C. Microscopic observations of this strip revealed cracks of the alumina layer on the edge: coils made with this strip show a premature breakdown. The purpose of this paper is to determine the efficiency of boron oxide deposited on coil edges to improve breakdown voltage level.
