Diabetes and Telehealth in China: Diagnoses, Treatment and Intervention

There is currently a wide disparity between rural and urban regions in China in terms of the quality and accessibility of healthcare. The most recent 2014 Government Directive singled out telemedicine as a possible solution. Coupled with the vast proliferation of smart phones among China's population there is some degree of optimism that rural communities (and by default urban communities) will start to obtain improved access to healthcare. This contribution provides an overview of the tele-medicine, tele-consultation and mHealth, initiatives currently being applied in the area of Diabetes diagnoses, treatment and intervention, within China.
